Fremont, Calif. —February 23, 2004—PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader providing market-driven integrated solutions for biomedical and industrial applications, today announced the introduction of two new products that will speed and simplify high-performance testing of fiber optic networks. The BW610 is a portable, cost-effective test solution for Gigabit Ethernet multimode fibers and the PMD610 is a new module for PerkinElmer’s ONA600 portable optical network analyzer. Together, these new products demonstrate PerkinElmer’s ongoing commitment to providing reliable and cost-competitive test products that accurately assess the performance of high-speed optical telecommunications networks.

PerkinElmer’s BW610 is a portable PC-controlled tester that measures multimode optical fiber bandwidth and differential mode delay (DMD) – two critical factors that must be controlled in Gigabit Ethernet multimode fibers. It can be used in the cable factory or in the field, and conforms to the latest international standards for multimode fiber testing. Compared to bulky and expensive tabletop solutions, the compact BW610 is an economic solution for ensuring fiber quality control and network commissioning, testing and installation.

The latest module for PerkinElmer’s ONA600, the PMD610 measures polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in fiber networks and features a best-in-class dynamic range, which enables users to test twice as much fiber at a time, cutting measurement time in half. With initial modules for chromatic dispersion (CD) and spectral attenuation, and now the PMD610 module, PerkinElmer’s ONA600 is a robust fiber optic test solution that enables users to test several critical network parameters at one sitting with a single LED source, requiring less measurement time, less connection time, and less hardware. The modular approach allows users to add functionality as their network analysis needs expand.

The BW610 and PMD610 will be available direct from PerkinElmer in March, 2004.

“The BW610 and PMD 610 fiber optic test products build on PerkinElmer’s proven track record of success and position us to take advantage of the upturn in the telecommunications industry,” said John Murphy, president, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics. “Our customers will continue to find that PerkinElmer’s smaller, lighter, and portable test products are more reliable and affordable than ever – giving them greater control over a broader range of network measurements.”
