PerkinElmer Optoelectronics Introductes New Xenon Lamp Technology That Improves Performance of High-Definition TVs and Home Theater Projectors

Longer-life, lower-price lamps give consumers a better home cinema experience
See PerkinElmer at InfoComm 2003 in Booth 2137

InfoComm 2003, Orlando, FL -- June 3, 2003 -- PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader providing market-driven integrated solutions for biomedical and industrial applications, today announced its new line of Cermax® Xenon lamps for rear-projection televisions (RPTVs) and mid-range to high-end home theater video projectors. By providing manufacturers with long-life, superior-quality lamps at prices comparable to lower-performing lamps, PerkinElmer continues to fuel the next generation of high-definition RPTVs and home theater projectors.

PerkinElmer will be showcasing its Xenon lamps in booth 2137 at the InfoComm 2003 conference and exposition, June 3 - 6, 2003 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

PerkinElmer's Cermax Xenon technology provides a balanced D6500 / D5900 color spectrum and true white light to produce the accurate, brilliant colors that consumers have grown to expect from the cinema experience. Setting a precedent for projection-based Xenon lamps, PerkinElmer has extended the average life of its lamps to 4000 hours, which will reduce the time and money customers spend on replacement lamps.

Other advantages of PerkinElmer's Cermax Xenon technology for manufacturers include a single light source, DC operation, and instant on/off. For consumers, benefits include superior color and contrast ratios, which contribute to accurate flesh tones, and no warm-up time, enabling home users to experience high image quality typically associated with industry-standard film-based and digital e-cinema projectors in theaters worldwide. Unlike UHP lamps, PerkinElmer's Cermax Xenon lamps do not contain mercury, which eliminates the potential of health risks associated with mercury contamination.

"Just as consumers have come to understand - and expect - the benefits of Xenon technology in cinema film projectors and automobile headlights, it is time for them to demand Xenon lamp technology in their home theater projectors and HD-RPTVs," said John Murphy, President, PerkinElmer Optoelectronics. "The benefits of Xenon are far superior to high-pressure mercury lamps, and now the operating costs are truly competitive. It's a win-win for projector manufacturers and their customers."

PerkinElmer Optoelectronics has successfully implemented enhancements to its design and manufacturing processes that enable it to produce high-quality, long-lasting lamp engines at competitive prices. PerkinElmer is working closely with its manufacturing customers to help them reduce design costs, speed time to market, and create competitive advantage.
