PerkinElmer Optoelectronics Showcases Next-Generation Technologies for Biomedical and Industrial Applications at Photonics West 2003

See PerkinElmer in Booth #5037 at Photonics West, January 28-30, San Jose, CA

Fremont, CA -- January 28, 2003 -- PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, a global technology leader providing market-driven integrated solutions for Biomedical and Industrial segments, will highlight a range of new and enhanced technologies this week at Photonics West 2003 in San Jose, CA. From the world's most sensitive photon detector to the first fully integrated thermopile module sensor, PerkinElmer continues to provide innovative solutions for instrument OEMs and designers looking to create competitive advantage through best-in-class engineering and manufacturing practices.

PerkinElmer will demonstrate these technologies - which are available now - in booth #5037:

  • SPCM-AQ4C Photon Detector - the latest addition to PerkinElmer's line of biomedical imaging technologies, which includes Channel Photomultipliers (CPMs) and Charged Coupled Devices (CCDs), the AQ4C Single Photon Counting Module (SPCM) is the industry's only four-channel photon counting card capable of detecting single photons over a wavelength range of 400nm to 1100nm. The four-channel array enables researchers to test four wavelengths (or colors) at a time, not just one, saving time and improving accuracy in drug discovery and genomic research. A breakthrough device for OEMs, the SPCM-AQ4C dovetails four SPCMs onto a single card, providing four times the throughput with half the footprint and reduced power consumption - at no additional cost to manufacturers. Available now, the AQ4C can be used for a range of applications that require examination of minute samples, including single molecule detection, high-throughput DNA sequencing, laser radars (LIDAR), adaptive optics and ultra-sensitive fluorescence detection.
  • Thermopile Module Sensor (TPMI) - designed for remote temperature measurements in industrial, consumer, home appliance and automotive solutions (such as microwave ovens, ear thermometers and smoke detectors), PerkinElmer's TPMI is the industry's first thermopile detector to be fully integrated with a signal processing chip in a compact TO-5 type housing, delivering an analog output signal that is already compensated for ambient temperature changes. It contains a powerful application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), which allows for operation without the need for additional external electronic components. TPMI also provides other state-of-the-art features, such as an adjustable low-noise amplifier, programmable memory cells, bi-directional serial digital interface and a processing unit that provides ambient temperature compensation. The TPMI sensor integrates seamlessly into OEM instrumentation and is ideal for high-volume applications that require miniaturization and simple circuitry.

The following enhanced technologies are also available for demonstration in PerkinElmer's booth:

  • L-series CMOS Linear Photodiode Array - the ideal sensor for scientific applications such as visible spectroscopy and colorimetry, the L-series CMOS Linear Photodiode Array combines high quantum efficiency and a single power supply operation.
  • YD5000 Series Color Line Scan Camera - designed to meet the increasing demands of advanced color imaging applications, including machine vision, document scanning, and food, pharmaceutical and printing inspection, the YD5000 Series Color Line Scan Camera features a photodiode array detection, a high-speed charge coupled scanning and digital color line scanning technology. Samples are available now for interested OEM manufacturers.
  • FD2114 Cooled CCD Camera - excelling in such applications as protein quantification, fluorescent microscopy, and luminescence, the FD2114 is a cooled CCD camera with a pixel resolution of 2184 x 1472 and a 16-bit dynamic range that allows users to detect the faintest of signals in their imaging field.
  • UV/VIS and NIR Spectrometers - see the real-time generation of spectra by these two high-performance spectrometer engines that operate in the UV/VIS and near infrared (NIR) wavelength ranges. PerkinElmer customizes these engines to provide integrated spectrometer solutions for biomedical OEM applications in molecular spectroscopy, clinical diagnostics and fluorimetry.
